Positive action: Delivering on decarbonisation pledges
The last of the ship.energy summits in 2021 will be part of one of the biggest events on the maritime calendar, London International Shipping Week. Planned as a physical event, the ship.energy summit will be held on 13 September at the London office of Norton Rose Fulbright.
With the strapline of Positive action: delivering on decarbonisation pledges, the summit will ask if shipping is doing enough in terms of technology and fuel development, regulation and policy to meet its 2030 and 2050 decarbonisation targets. Are the new bunker fuels and technologies making progress in terms of safety regulations, commercialisation and scalability? Is sufficient funding in place for R&D and new vessels? Is there sufficient clarity on the potential and use of market-based measures.
At the 26th UN Climate Change Conference of the Parties (COP26) in Glasgow in November, countries will have to demonstrate their commitment to, and progress on, reaching the goals of the Paris agreement. The ship.energy summit at LISW will ask shipping stakeholders if the pace of the industry’s own energy transition is accelerating quickly enough and if not, why not?
