REGULATORY OVERVIEW
Regulation is intended to create a structure and timeline to support the delivery of shipping’s energy transition. This overview will provide a springboard for the discussions at the ship.energy summit by giving an update on IMO, EU and national environmental and energy regulations, as well offering a snapshot of how safety regulations are being shaped for the construction of new ships and the handling of new fuels.

Opening Remarks - Shipping Market in Transition
Carlos Guerrero, Global Market Leader of Gas Carriers and Tankers, Bureau Veritas
SESSION ONE: REALITY CHECK
This session will focus on shipping’s new energies. Participants will look at fuel availability, sourcing and production scalability. They will also look at the timelines to develop synthetic or e-variants of all the fuels available to shipping and discuss the importance of a well-to-wake rather than a tank-to-wake evaluation of the emissions of these fuels. Is an immediate switch to zero emission fuels feasible and why does a step-by-step approach to shipping’s energy transition generate such a kick-back from some industry stakeholders?

SESSION TWO: JOINING THE DOTS
The fuel supply chain will be the focus of this session, from the infrastructure required for energy transportation and storage through to physical delivery. They will also consider the importance of crew and landside training in the handling of new fuels. Participants will also look at how industry associations and alliances are fostering innovation in decarbonisation as well as the role that initiatives such as green shipping corridors can play as testbeds for fuels, technologies, and stakeholder collaboration.

SESSION SIX: DOING THE SUMS
Estimates of the cost of shipping’s energy transition are constantly being revised – upwards. But who is providing the investment for new ships, for the R&D for new fuels and technologies, and for their commercialisation? Speakers will consider access to finance, investors appetite for risk, and what the inclusion of shipping in the EU ETS means for the industry.
