The Port of Sines is an open deep-water sea port with excellent maritime access, without restrictions, leading the Portuguese port sector in the volume of cargo handled, and offering unique natural characteristics to receive any type of vessels. Due to its modern specialized terminals, the port is able to handle the different types of cargoes.
Sines is the main port in the Ibero-atlantic front, whose geophysical characteristics have been determinant on its consolidation as a strategic national active. It is the country’s leading energetic supplier (crude, refined products and natural gas), as well as an important port as far as general and containerized cargo concerns, presenting a high growth potential, in order to become a reference port at an Iberian, European and worldwide level.
It is a modern port (1978), free of urban constraints, thus assuring long-term expansion capacity. Offering good land accessibility for present traffic, the port is also included within a road and rail development plan, allowing it to respond to the expected future growth of both the port and the region..
The Port of Sines and its support Industrial and Logistics Zone, with more than 2.000 ha, are already a worldwide extent logistic platform, able to receive the main players of port, maritime, industrial and logistic sectors.
During the tour, the participants will visit the five specialized terminals, as well as remaining infrastructures inside the port’s jurisdiction area, such as the Leisure Port, the Fishing Harbour and the Logistic Activities Zone.

YILPORT LISCONT: IBERIAN GATEWAY TO THE ATLANTIC OCEAN
Part of YILPORT Iberia network of terminals in the Atlantic façade, LISCONT sets the standards in Portugal’s container terminal operations and port management since 1984. Located in the heart of the capital of the country, the biggest consumption area and at the regional center of important manufacturing industries, connects with main railway and highways of the Peninsula and meets the intersection of North/South and East/West seaborne trade routes.
With an ongoing investment of over 120 million Euros, which includes namely 4 new STS cranes able to serve Super Post-Panamax vessels (14.000 TEU), other state-of-the-art equipment, and yard repaving, the LISCONT Modernization Project will drive the Terminal to be the leading edge of the Portuguese supply chain.
