FFS REFINERS
FFS Refiners (Pty) Ltd is a company whose foundation is proudly South African; the company was established in 1974 by the Hurter family. Its debit project was the recovery of waste oil from SAPREF which was in-turn processed into fuel oil for the Union Whaling Company in Durban.
In 1986 Sasol became a shareholder and FFS went on to recover -/+ 760 000 tons of waste oil tar & pitch from Sasol in Secunda for the purpose of processing into fuel oil.
In 2007 Calulo Investments acquired 25% stake in the company, 2007 also mark the exit of Sasol. FFS grew to becomes the largest supplier of industrial heating fuel in South Africa. The company continued to make its mark in the industry as inhouse designed, built and operated base oil hydrotreaters were introduced in South Africa and Australia.
The company saw immense growth with the Calulo Investments gaining control of FFS in 2013. In 2016 the company began a diversification strategy into Base oils with a processing plant based in Pietermaritzburg in Kwa-Zulu Natal.
FFS Refiners saw further expansion in 2018 as the group further diversified into Marine bunkering operations and sales.
