FFS Refiners (Pty) Ltd is a company whose foundation is proudly South African; the company was established in 1974 by the Hurter family. Its debit project was the recovery of waste oil from SAPREF which was in-turn processed into fuel oil for the Union Whaling Company in Durban.
In 1986 Sasol became a shareholder and FFS went on to recover -/+ 760 000 tons of waste oil tar & pitch from Sasol in Secunda for the purpose of processing into fuel oil.
In 2007 Calulo Investments acquired 25% stake in the company, 2007 also mark the exit of Sasol. FFS grew to becomes the largest supplier of industrial heating fuel in South Africa. Another milestone for the business was the acquisition of OTGC Terminals now known as FFS Tank Terminals which boasts liquid bulk terminals in Cape Town & Durban. 2022 ended of on a high note as FFS Tank Terminals commenced construction of its liquid bulk storage expansion in the Port of Durban.
