RECOVERY POSITION: THE WAY BACK FOR SHIPPING AND BUNKER MARKETS
The dramatic change brought about by the implementation of the IMO 2020 global sulphur cap and the subsequent high sulphur fuel carriage ban has been completely overshadowed by the unexpected global crisis caused by the Coronavirus COVID-19 pandemic, with lockdowns in many sovereign states, travel bans, the collapse of global stock markets and oil prices in freefall.
Rather than markets just coming to terms with the new IMO regulations and contemplating the 2050 greenhouse gas reduction challenge, the entire maritime industry now finds itself facing a very different, insecure and completely unpredictable future. Uncharted territory indeed.
Against such a background, how will shipping, oil and bunker markets fare during the second half of the year and beyond? And what specific impact will this unprecedented turmoil have on those involved in these markets in North, South and Central America and the Caribbean? The answers may be few and far between, but there is no doubt that these pressing issues will be firmly at the top of the agenda at this year’s rescheduled Maritime Week Americas.
Maritime Week Americas is the biggest and most popular annual bunkering event in the Americas because of its top-quality, timely content and unrivalled networking. MWA 2022 in Panama will lift the bar even higher.
MWA 2022 comprises a high-level two-day marine bunker conference and a specialist training course, plus an opportunity to experience the Panama Canal and the country’s shipping and bunkering infrastructure.

Covid-19 – Cancellation Policy
We are continuously monitoring the Covid-19 situation in Panama and across the world.
If you have already registered and paid to attend Maritime Week Americas 2022 but are subsequently informed by the authorities in your country of residence that you are not permitted to travel to Panama at the time of the event, you will be given the opportunity to transfer your registration to the next Maritime Week Americas, scheduled for Fort Lauderdale in October 2022. Should you find that you are unable to attend on the new dates for any reason – and are unable to transfer the registration to a colleague – Petrospot will refund your registration fees in full.
We are working closely with our hotel and venue partners to ensure that our clients are not exposed to any financial risk should they be obliged to cancel. However, any hotel cancelations will be at the discretion of the hotel, rather than Petrospot.
Petrospot reserves the right to require proof of vaccination status and/or a recent negative Covid-19 test and to request a temperature test on arrival at the event, in line with any local official guidelines. We will also follow all local Government guidelines with regards to social distancing, participant numbers and sanitisation standards.
Please note these guidelines are subject to change but you will be made aware of any implications ahead of time.
