In 1994, Ian joined Llewellyn Bankes-Hughes as Features Editor of BunkerNews, then the world’s leading marine fuels magazine, at MRC Business Information Group in Oxford. Ian left in 1998 to work as a consultant at international PR company Countrywide Porter-Novelli in Banbury, before returning to join Llewellyn.

In June 2006, in Nashville, Tennessee, Ian was awarded the coveted International Cargo Security Council International Media Leadership Award.
