The IBIA Annual Convention 2008

24-27 November 2008, Cape Town, South Africa

EVENT INFORMATION

The Location

Cape Town (Ariel View)

Cape Town, the oldest and most historic city in South Africa, is regularly heralded as one of the most beautiful on earth.

The massive sandstone bulk of Table Mountain, forms an imposing backdrop, while minutes away, pristine sandy beaches line the cliff-hugging coast. Mountainous slopes sustaining the world's most varied botanic kingdom (some 9,000 species strong) overlook fertile valleys carpeted with vines, and driving from the highway you can spot zebra and wildebeest grazing.

Transport

Air: Cape Town International Airport is approximately 17 km from the city centre - about a 15 to 20 minutes' drive! More than a dozen international and seven local airlines fly to and from the busy airport day and night, seven days a week. Airport enquiries: Tel. 934 0407.

Rail: An excellent rail network links central Cape Town with the southern Peninsula and the Western Cape (timetables and tickets available at Cape Town's centrally-located station - call 403 9080 or 0800 65 64 63 for enquiries). One of the best ways to see the breathtaking sea views of False Bay on the way to historic Simonstown is by train!

Taxi: Taxi cabs are another option, and are specially recommended at night. Although you can't hail a taxi New York-style on the streets of Cape Town, they can be hired at taxi ranks or ordered by phone through one of the many taxi companies. Not cheap, but definitely the safest bet.

Car Hire: Healthy competition between car hire companies (local and international) has ensured untold rewards from shopping around for the best deal. It's sometimes also possible to return a car picked up in Cape Town in another city, or vice versa. A valid driver's licence and minimum age of 21 or 25 are generally the only other requirements.

Intercity Bus Services: Luxury bus services are available between Cape Town and most other cities in South Africa.

Airport Transfers

Journey time to the hotel from Cape Town International Airport is approximately 30 minutes but may take longer in rush hour periods.

You may pre-book airport transfers with the Westin Grand Cape Town Arabella Quays hotel’s preferred suppliers Southern Touring Company by clicking here.

Private taxis are also available from Cape Town International Airport and approximate fare one way is ZAR 250.
